It’s easy to think that more foam equals cleaner dishes. The soapier the water, the cleaner it gets, right?

In fact, the opposite is often true. Too many bubbles make the dishwater less effective, German environmental experts explain.

This is due to the fact that the detergent collects on the surface of the water, making it less effective against fighting and getting rid of grease.

With this in mind, expert advice is to use washing-up liquid sparingly with hot water and follow manufacturer’s instructions.

Last but not least: make sure to always add washing-up liquid to the water once the sink is filled to prevent excessive frothing. – dpa
