Hom Art Trans gallery in Selangor is taking on a wistful youthful direction in its upcoming group exhibition Longing Memories, which features newcomer artists like Chok Yue Zan, Viko Zhijune and Nik Husyaidie, all in their early 20s.

The show runs at the gallery from Aug 5 to 19. “Longing Memories is an exhibition of paintings from three young contemporary talents that we feel need to be introduced to the broader masses,” says Danial Fuad, Hom Art Trans gallery manager.

Longing Memories captures the artists reflecting on their childhood memories through different artistic styles. The works, spanning mixed media and oil on canvas, touch on personal stories and feature images of nature to represent emotion, dreams and hope.

“These artists, despite their relatively young ages, have delivered very thoughtful and personal works to this show,” he adds.

Chok’s paintings talk about sadness and the changes that he has experienced through his childhood years. He combines figures from old photographs with scenes of nature. Nik Husyaidie plays with composition, and achieves vibrant results from his study of textures, colours and shapes.

Meanwhile, Viko’s pieces are consumed by her inner struggles, with a gardenscape of melancholic and moody images.

Longing Memories is at Hom Art Trans, Taman Cempaka in Ampang. Open: Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm. Phone: 03-9286 7004.
